Between the two windows are the clasped hands of an insurance society founded in 1696, which adopted this logo and then, in 1706, took officially the name of "The Hand-in-Hand". The records of The Hand-in-Hand, which was later absorbed by the Commercial Union Assurance Company Limited, were deposited at the Guildhall Library and can now be found in the collections of London Metropolitan Archives (reference: CLC/B/055-10).
