Looking west-northwest along Skirlaugh Road, Old Ellerby, with Charnwood on the right and The School House beyond. Opened in 1877 as a national school for boys and girls, Ellerby School was attended by up to thirty pupils at times but this had dwindled to twenty or less by the time the county council took over in 1944. The school closed in 1947 when the building was deemed inadequate and pupils were transferred to either Skirlaugh or Marton.
