The car park is not physically barriered from the beach; rather, the shingle in the car park 'becomes' the beach (though it is a steep bank which would stymie most attempts to drive onto the beach!). Cars are parked alongside, behind and between piles of shingle; it can be seen from the difference in colour that each pile contains different grades of stone. The picture is taken from access to yet more parking accommodation.
