The blue plaque http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5506436 on the wall records that this was a flourishing theatre in the 18th century. Mrs Siddons is known to have appeared here. [Sarah Siddons (1755-1831) was a Welsh-born actress, the best-known tragedienne of the 18th century] The building was later refaced and converted to an inn, the Loyal Volunteer. 27 Gloucester Street was Grade II listed in 1971.
