The Buxton Monument celebrates the achievements of philanthropist, prison reformer and slavery abolitionist, Thomas Fowell Buxton, 1786-1845 and MP for Weymouth 1818-1837. Much more is related on a sign nearby. Funded by the Thomas Fowell Buxton Society, public donations, and the Heritage Lottery Fund. The Isle of Portland is in the background.
