Grade II Listed altered 18th century building. Work in 2014 discovered part of a 15th century roof that was possibly from one of two pubs previously on this site, the Angel and the Swan. In 1789 it was purchased by the Archbishop of Canterbury (Thomas Tenison). By this time, The Swan had become The Three Swans and The Angel had become The White Swan. By 1795, the Three Swans had become The Robin Hood and by 1806, the eastern side of the pub (The White Swan/The Angel) had started being used by other businesses. In the 1850s until the 1920s, this side was a hairdresser's, after which, the building was altered and the present building took over the whole site. The Post Office Directory of 1847 describes James Meadows in the Old Robin Hood, Sheep Market and in the 1851 census he is 'Carpenter & Publican, sign of the Robbins Head' reverting in 1852 Slaters Directory to occupying the 'Robin Hood, Sheep Market'. References to the 'Old Robin Hood' appear to continue until at least 1945. The Robin Hood closed in March 2012 and plans to re-open as more of a restaurant/bar appear to have not yet surfaced (2017). A search of my directories produced; 1839 James Everett; 1854 James Meadows; 1876 John Conquest, Old Robin Hood; 1898-1903 Henry Harris; 1910 George Culverwell; 1914 Walter Armes.
