These meadows are part of the Marline Valley Nature Reserve leased by the Sussex Wildlife Trust from Hastings Borough Council. It is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and a Local Nature Reserve (LNR). The orchids are Dactylorhiza fuchsii.
