Rather than one of the big national charities, whose shops are nowadays a feature of almost all high streets, this unit on Fore Street is dedicated to a very local campaign - the effort to raise money from the community for a 25 metre swimming pool, together with learner and hydrotherapy pools, for the town. At the time of this photograph over £115,000 of the £150,000 needed had been raised. The opening to the left marked as a private road is one of a number of similar alleyways leading to courts behind the shops.
