Work on this grade II listed building commenced in 1899 when it was built as a daughter church to St Catherine's in order to provide a facility for the village's English-speaking community at a time when services at St Catherine's were held in Welsh. It was dedicated to St John the Baptist, and the name 'St John's' is discernible above the gate; the modern name was adopted in 2013 when St Catherine's was closed.
