One of the prime hotels in Bristol, the Grand Hotel Hotel was designed by Foster and Wood in the Italianate Renaissance style in 1864-9. Originally, the ground floor would have had a number of shops and the entrance was by a flight of steps up between them to a doorway with a lion sitting in the fanlight.
