This sign where Mewith Lane crosses the Eskew Beck marks the boundary between Lancashire and North Yorkshire. Barely three hours into my four-day ride across the country on the Way of the Roses, this demonstrates how Yorkshire actually covers about 90% of the width of the North of England.
