16th century Grade II Listed Public house and inn. Described on its website as 13th century and in the Parish records as 'of ancient origin, used by smugglers, damaged by fire 1969, quickly restored'. Directory entries include; 1839 John Hammond; 1855-1869 John Buckingham; 1891-1892 John Mead (& horse and trap letter & butcher); 1900 William Whayman (& assistant overseer & clerk of Parish Council); 1912 Philip Obed Bixby (also Jolly Sailor P.H. & assistant overseer & clerk of Parish Council).
