Heatherlea stands on the west side of the Market Place at the top of the Peth. It was originally a two storey building, built by Stephenson and Bell, on land previously owned by Leeds and Scottish Country Bank. The building was converted into the Heatherlea Hotel in 1903. It was a very popular family hotel until 1999 when it was converted into apartments. The modern building on the right is part of Allendale Forge Studios.
