Stretham Manor

The original manor house was located a little to the north west, see Image, and was occupied up to around 1500 when it was replaced by a new building here. However, it was used as a manor house for just over a century when it moved again to New Hall, now located on the outer fringes of Small Dole. The building subsequently fell into decay and was eventually reduced in size to a cottage. The western side was added in 1978. Stretham was the main manor for Henfield parish despite it occupying a remote corner of the parish and was owned for many centuries by the Archbishops of Chichester who only gave it up during the Victorian era.
