At the 2005 Chelsea Flower Show the "Chelsea Pensioners Garden" won a gold award. In 2006 it was recreated on a larger scale in the garden of the New Flying Horse public house under the supervision of its designer Julian Dowle. The garden creates "A Soldier's Dream of Blighty", with a soldier's country home, with thatched roof, and a "Dig for Victory" vegetable plot with authentic 1939 vegetables. These were grown by Chelsea Pensioners from original catalogue instructions. Image
