Records of this building go back to 1650. The National Trust for Scotland have restored it and provided 8 houses for the elderly in the main part with a garden in what was the open merchant’s yard. During restoration 2 large vats were found under floor level thought to be for whale oil from the fleet based at Bo’ness in the early part of the 20h century. The inset areas mark the position of doors which existed for part of the building’s existence. No trace of the stair to the upper one remains.
