A narrowboat moored on the Bridgewater Canal at Castlefield. On the opposite side is Merchants Warehouse. Merchants Warehouse was built in 1820s and is Grade II listed. The four-storey brick and timber warehouse was built directly on the side of the canal, and included two large shipping holes which allowed barges to enter the warehouse for the loading and off-loading of goods. Goods were transferred by means of a series of hoists. It managed to escape demolition in the 1900s and despite being badly damaged by fire in the 1970s it was completely restored in the 1990s by Ian Simpson Architects. http://manchesterhistory.net/manchester/tours/tour1/merchants.html
