Dating from at least 1830 and probably earlier, the modest two-storey "Crown & Mitre" was a former coaching inn. Acquired by the State Management Scheme in October 1918, it was sold on 24 May 1973 to Greenall Whitley. Trevor Grahamslaw in his book "Wigton Through Time" (Amberley Publishing 2010) suggests it was demolished shortly thereafter and replaced with this modern retail outlet.
