Ballyknockan Mill

The current buildings at Ballyknockan mill were built in 1810. Records state that it was a corn and flax mill. The wing shown here is the corn mill. On the end of the wing is an overgrown waterwheel which, according to the 1837 OS memoirs, was a breast wheel with a 13ft diameter and a width of 4ft 1in. Looking through the small window in the wall you can see the pit wheel, which is the only remaining piece of machinery. Across the road is a converted building with a large chimney, which may have been the flax mill.
