View northward, towards South Shields, on the ex-NER South Shields - Sunderland line, which since 3/2002 has been the Sunderland extension of Tyne & Wear Metro. Monkwearmouth station was at that date closed and became a Museum, and a new station (St Peters) was built nearby.
