This is a grade II listed object. See https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1309046 It is the twin of the one near the co-op (see Image) which is not similarly listed. Both were installed at the expense of the owner of Irnham Hall, W. H. Woodhouse, in about 1850. The water supply was gravity fed from a brick lined open topped tank further up the hill toward Irnham, which does not survive. That was fed, in turn, by a natural spring. By the early years of the 20th century there was a second tap on this pillar, fed by a spring in nearby Church Street.
