The birthplace of William Ambrose Wright (Billy Wright) the footballer, who lived 1924 to 1994, and played an outstanding and exemplary career for Wolverhampton Wanderers and England between 1939 (or 1946, depending upon how you define his debut match - the start of the war altered the rules somewhat) and 1959. He was the first footballer to earn 100 'caps' for his country, and remains in the top 10 or so of such players for England.
