Parts of the house may be as early as 1511, but the date stone says 1623, when it was extended for Edinburgh merchant Patrick Ellis. It was falling into disrepair until gifted by (of all people) the Greyhound Racing Association to the National Trust for Scotland. It was restored by Ian G Lindsay and in use as Stenhouse Conservation Centre. See https://canmore.org.uk/site/52645/edinburgh-3-stenhouse-mill-lane-stenhouse for more details. The interior apparently contains a number of interesting features, none of which were available to view when I visited; the gates were firmly locked.
