These are the remains of the icehouse for Belhus Park. Before the days of mechanical refrigeration ice would be collected from Image and stored in the heavily insulated icehouse. Above the pit would have been a brick dome covered in earth. The chestnut tree in the picture is a survivor of those planted to give shade and reduce the ambient temperature around the store.
