Tricorn House was built in 1972 and used by the Department of Health and Social Security for a while. It is an example of the Brutalist style of architecture, typically characterised by a predominance of concrete, very linear, blockish and like a fortress. It has been unoccupied for many years. In 2016, a local councillor described the building as a blot on the landscape and a landmark for all the wrong reasons. It has fallen prey to vandalism and become notorious as one of Stroud's worst eyesores. Windows have been smashed, doors boarded up, boundary walls vandalised and graffiti sprayed on the building. Among other comments is "the ugliest building in Stroud".
