I don't know whether this sign has been allowed to get into this well-worn state to give the impression of being a survivor from an earlier age, or whether it has just been neglected. But it clearly belongs to the era of the preserved railway, as Oxenhope station would not have needed an "overflow car park" in British Railways days. It was of course the motor car that put paid to the economics of branch lines like this in the first place.
