Carterton is the second largest town (after Witney) in West Oxfordshire District, with a population of around 20,000 and growing rapidly. Despite this two of the three banks in the town are due to close in 2017 leaving the Barclays Bank branch the last one standing. The closures are put down to decreasing branch use with the growth of internet and telephone banking as major factors. Lloyds Bank will close this branch on the 25th September 2017. They will however be providing a mobile banking unit which will be visiting the town at times to be announced. The nearest permanent branch is at Witney, which is about 6 miles away. The black posts outside the bank are presumably to deter smash and grab raids. The mobile banking unit visits the town twice a week (as at February 2018):- Image
