The vicarage next to the church on Park Road was used as an auxiliary hospital during the Great War. The war memorial inside the church records that 562 men received treatment there, and the whole cost was paid by Edward George Lancaster of Keresforth Hall, Barnsley. http://stedwardsremembers.blogspot.co.uk/p/the-lancaster-convalescent-home.html Until last year this was home to the GDA advertising agency since 1987.
