Possibly a modified original staircase on the first floor, leading to an upper level which does not appear to be open to the public. One leg leads directly into a wall. The original Sir Basil Spence designed terminal building is now almost completely absorbed within a cluster of extensions and additions, but traces of it can still be seen if you look carefully.
