Located opposite housing estates on the other side of Skeltons Lane - some of which are named after Penda. Penda, a one eyed pagan warlord who became King of Mercia and fore-father of Offa (famous for his dyke). He met his end at the battle of Winwaed, which is thought to be around here on the headwaters of Cock Beck on Whinmoor. That is the same Cock Beck that played such a significant role in Britain's bloodiest battle, fought at Towton 800 years later.
