Nothing very remarkable about these brick terraced cottages in Ripon, but anyone emerging from the nearby Magdalens pub might wonder if they had had a drop too much as some of these houses lean back, whilst others have slightly tipsy lintels and windowsills. In this part of the city there is a history of subsidence due to underlying gypsum deposits. The Skittergate Gutter (now covered over) is also believed to add to the subsidence problems in this area.
