John Newman describes the church in Pevsner's 'The Buildings of England: West Kent & the Weald' as "Characteristically a town church, and, unlike many town churches, lying closeup to the High Street. At first sight all is Perpendicular ... tall west tower, of three stages, with angle buttresses. Bulbous cap to its north-east turret." The top stage of the tower was rebuilt in 1812 during a restoration, with further restoration taking place in 1778.
