As I understand it, this extravagant facade belongs to what was originally the Peebles Combination Poor House. Later, it was used as a hospital before becoming the headquarters, first, Peebles County Council then of Tweeddale District Council. It is now the Peebles area office of the Borders Council, and the divisional police offices.
