According to the guide book, the rail sculptures/mile markers are placed along the length of the path, one every mile, to mark one's progress or to be used as seats or hitching posts. Each one has a unique, site-specific, metal rubbing plaque showing aspects of the track’s past. This plaque would seem to refer to RAF Swannington > http://www.geograph.org.uk/article/RAF-Swannington.
