Viewed from one of the Metrolink trams that now ply the route between Manchester and Altrincham, the station itself was originally built by the Manchester South Junction and Altrincham Railway in 1849. The wooden sleepers suggest that the track itself was not changed when the operation was handed over to Metrolink in 1992.
