The blue plaque (just right of centre) commemorates this terrace having been the home of Francis "Tanky" Smith, Leicester's first private detective. Above the first floor windows are sixteen carvings, each showing one of the legendary sleuth's disguises; it is from these that the name of the terrace is derived.
