Designed for the State Management Scheme by Harry Redfern and built by J & R Bell, The Spinners Arms opened in 1930 on a "green field" site. A homely public house with hints of the Arts & Crafts movement, castings on the gutters depict various animals including a bull, a hare, a tortoise, a kangaroo, a crocodile and an elephant (see: Image] ). Olive Seabury comments that "the origin of the initial choice, and by whom, remains a conundrum". Sold to the private sector in 1973, the pub is still open. See also: Image] and Image] .
