The sails have been removed for renewal. It was built in 1818 with an exceptionally wide tower, having a diameter of 23 feet, opposed to the more usual 12 to 14 feet. The mill had become derelict by 1976 and was acquired by Norfolk Windmills Trust in 1989 who have undertaken the task of restoration.
