This artwork by Hilary Paynter (2003) is now displayed in the upper foyer of the Metro Station, above the escalators just off the concourse of Newcastle Central Railway Station, re-positioned from platform level after refurbishment of Metro Central Station in 2015/16. The design commemorates the 250th anniversary of the birth of Thomas Bewick (1753-1828), one of the greatest Northern artists Image Hilary Paynter is one of today's leading wood engravers and has reproduced her work of 14 images featuring different scenes of the landscape of the north-east, each enlarged from 20cm to 2m, screen-printed onto vitreous enamel panels. http://www.nexus.org.uk/art-transport/commissions/rivers-sea-hilary-paynter
