Cheswardine Bridge is No 56 across the Shropshire Union Canal. The Shropshire Union Canal, engineered by Thomas Telford, is renowned for its lengthy embankments and cuttings, designed to shorten the mileage, but the cause of regular landslips and breaches. Here in the Woodseaves Cutting the canal is enshrouded with mature deciduous trees, whose roots help mightily in preventing this. Watch out for the ghost! ;-)
