As well as showing the proximity of the castle to the hotel the blue plaque on the wall commemorates the fact that Arnold Wilkins and Robert Watson-Watt stayed at the hotel while developing RDF (Radar) on Orford Ness in 1935. The later went on to continue and perfect their work at Bawdsey, a few miles down the coast. http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4182784 http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5286339
