The Hawthorn -Sceach Ghael in Irish - is associated with magical powers and in particular with the "wee folk". Lone hawthorn bushes were, and still are, regarded with a degree of awe and dire consequences are said to befall anyone foolhardy enough to cut down a lone hawthorn bush. This image was taken from the Cluster Road. http://irishfireside.com/2012/02/25/fairy-trees/
