Hatley St George: The Old George

“The village possessed an alehouse in 1638 which was frequented by the rector. In 1839 the George stood south of the road on the site later occupied by one of the park lodges. A new George was built by Thomas St Quintin [the owner of Hatley Park, d 1852] in 1850 c 350 yds. east of the former house and on the opposite side of the road” (British History Online). The building, dated 1850, is no longer a public house.
