Plaque attached to Image It reads: This ancient and uncut stone obelisk, donated by Harry Baker of Stribers, with its surrounding slate seat, is one of two outdoor features erected in celebration of the Millennium in the Civil Parish of Lower Allithwaite. The project was led by one of the Millennium Mappers, George Airey, and work was carried out by architectural stone mason Edward Waller and local builder John Burrow. It was financed by public grants and proceeds from the sale of the Millennium Parish Map, which can be seen in Cartmel Priory & St Mary's Church, Allithwaite. Dedicated by Father Robert Bailey, vicar of Cartmel Priory on Sunday 3rd November 2002, it is now held in trusteeship for the community by the Parish Council.
