This stepped structure with brick sides carries a small stream from the edge of Powdermill Lane into the gill in Coneyburrow Wood. The purpose is, presumably, to stop the stream eroding the bank back and undermining the lane behind and above it. Brede High Woods is owned and managed by the Woodland Trust.
