A felled tree has been transformed into a carving of Faversham Abbey Gate. Ahead is Abbey Street. Faversham Abbey was a Cluniac style monastery immediately to the north-east of the town. It was founded by King Stephen and his wife Matilda of Boulogne in 1148. Almost nothing remains of the Abbey today and the Abbey Gate was demolished in the 18th century.
