The tunnels are used to extend the growing season and have become common in recent years. This has seen a reintroduction of soft fruit growing in the area. This had previously been very common especially raspberries, but had all but disappeared. However, a small but growing number of fields are being turned back to strawberries and raspberries with the aid of tunnels.
