This pleasant country house was in the mid-19th century the home of the Rev, R.R.Hughes, the vicar of Newborough. A copy of letter of his from 1849 to Lord Newborough appealing for a contribution towards restoring Newborough church, with which he had enclosed a plan of the proposed restorations and a list of the donations already received, had a note attached to it from his Lordship refusing point blank to give any money but proposing that a general rate be levied on all local landowners to pay for a better plan.
