Built between 1908-1918 by Michael Paget Baxter the then Lord of the Manor of Aldrington who would also acquire the title of Lord of the Manor of Lancing which then gave him legal rights to the ownership of the beach in front of the houses (The old spit formed by centuries of longshore drift which pushed the mouth of the River Adur as far eastwards as Aldrington was assigned to the parish of Lancing due to the simple fact that that was where the spit grew out from). Initially known as Aldrington Beach Bungalows, then Seaside Bungalows followed by Hove Seaside Villas it was numbered as part of Western Esplanade after the Second World War. Despite the fact that immediately to the north is an industrial estate and to the west is a rather shabby area of open ground, the houses fronting the only area of private beaches within the city of Brighton & Hove have become a much sought after piece of property thus acquiring the informal nickname of 'Millionaire's Row'. The current well known residents are Norman Cook (aka Fatboy Slim) and Heather Mills (ex Mrs Paul MacCartney) both of whom have owned the nearby Image Other former residents include Nick Berry, Derek Jameson, Robin Ray and Oscar Loewenstein. In the distance is the i360 whilst further afield are the cliffs of Rottingdean and Saltdean.
