George Green is the remnant of Wanstead's village green, once part of the grounds of Wanstead House. It is now maintained by the Corporation of London's Conservators of Epping Forest and is noted for Spanish and horse chestnuts. In the 1990s it was the site of vigorous protests against the building of the M11 link road.
